Cyberpunk 2077’s Afterlife Vs. Mass Effect 2’s Afterlife

Cyberpunk 2077open world shooter set in 2077 but released in 2020 (well, technically), again in the spirit of the times thanks to the recent next-generation update. An integral part of its plot is a dusty basement called “Afterlife.” The waterhole of the same name is an equally vital location in BioWare’s space opera set in the year 2183. Mass Effect 2 has itself experienced some recent resurgence thanks to last year’s Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Obviously, there are plenty of comparisons.

IN Cyberpunk, you’ll find Afterlife in the southern part of Watson Knight City. He hides at the bottom of the stairwell under the building next to the parking lot mass effect. The afterlife, on the other hand, is located in the central atrium of Omega, a lawless medusa-shaped interstellar way station carved into the remains of a shattered asteroid.

Omega’s afterlife is an airy open space most frequented by cocaine-hungry financial brothers. Passé flames dance on the walls. A velvet rope blocks the door, as does a massive bodyguard. Inside, you’ll find a semi-circular bar – great for getting the bartender’s attention, but not quite for hanging outflanked by multiple dance floors and an arrogant VIP section.

Head into the afterlife of Night City, however, and you’ll find something much more mundane (literally). Regulars line up at the bar or in smoky booths for cheap beer and good drinks. Low lighting and low ceilings create a sense of intimacy. In the back, you will find a pool table with booze stains. If someone is looking for a hit here, they do not attach much importance to it.

To visit Omega’s Afterlife is to immerse yourself in the heady soundtrack to the Bottega Veneta fashion show of the mid-90s. At Night City’s, you’ll get crunchy guitars, heartbeat drums, and belted lyrics – a delightful mixtape that, for that era, would have been the equivalent of a bar on your block with a 1920s playlist. Everyone loves a good return!

Afterlife Night City offers everything you would expect to find at your local establishment, from stouts to whiskeys and wines with long French labels. As part of Cyberpunk 2077massive update, developer CD Projekt Red even added cocktail named after Jackie Wells – your character’s longtime friend – on a menu that unequivocally rules. I have no idea what you can drink in the afterlife of Omega. (When you order, the turian pours you a double shot from an unmarked white bottle.) But just curiosity.

Drinks in Night City range anywhere from $120 (tall guy Spunky Monkey) to $720 (a finger of a high-end liquor called Ab-Synth) in Eurodollars. Drinks at Omega cost one click in the “order a drink” dialog box, which in all currencies is exchanged for exactly $0.

In Night City, the Afterlife is the de facto destination of repairmen and mercenaries. In Omega, the afterlife is allegedly visited by the same crowd, but the very existence of its VIP section implies that there is no shortage of people there just to throw money away and cosplay for the evening as a person who is really cool.

By our (extremely scientific) metric, Mass Effect 2 wins over Cyberpunk 2077. And, of course, many factors influence this – for example, being in space, as well as being in space- I’m going for it. But if you ask me which afterlife I’d rather spend time in, it’s Night City by a mile. All the bells and whistles in the galaxy can’t match one of the most important benefits of a bar: the company you hang out with. And few of my friends would put themselves through an astronaut’s rigorous training regimen just to get a free whatever drink that turian bartender pours.
