Destiny 2 Parasite exotic guide

The Parasite Exotic Grenade Launcher is one of the new Exotics available in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen and is well worth picking up. This allows you to throw worms at your enemies. So don’t you like it? The quest to get it is not particularly difficult, but long, so let’s get started.

How to get the Parasite in Destiny 2

First, you must complete the entire Witch Queen campaign. You can play it on Normal or Legendary difficulty, although I recommend Legendary because it rewards you with a gear drop that boosts your Strength up to 1520, making the last section of this quest a lot easier, and you can avoid the grind. It means this guide contains spoilers for the main campaign, so proceed at your own risk.

When you finish the campaign, you will be told that Mara Sov wants to talk to you. You can find her in the Enclave, behind the Relic you use to craft your weapon. When you get here, you will find the Savathun Worm. You will be able to enjoy a short intro before continuing.

Throne of meanness

Now perform the second of two new strikes added to Witch Queen. It launches straight from the Throneworld, and the recommended power level is 1510. If you’ve completed the legendary campaign, you should be way ahead at 1520, but if you haven’t, I will try to reach the soft power cap of 1500 before taking it on. At the very end of the strike, simply place the worm on the small altar to complete this step.

Collect the Rune Cryptoglyphy

After completing the strike, you will be sent back to the Throneworld and find Finch’s vendor, who will send you to find the Cryptoglyph rune. Follow the quest marker a long, long way to the Temple of Cunning – you’ll recognize it from the Scorn boss fight during the campaign. When you arrive, defeat several waves of Scorn to complete this step.

Charge Rune

With Scorn in the entire Throneworld, including the Temple of Cunning, it’s pretty easy. You can find a lot by re-launching Birthplace of the Vile, but personally, I recommend trying the new Wellspring activity, which will throw a comical amount of Scorn at you.

Lost Sector of the Tomb

If you’re new to Destiny 2, Lost Sectors are sort of a hidden nook in the open-world zone, usually consisting of a couple of rooms and a boss fight. Look for a painted symbol that looks a bit like a semi-circular doorway or tunnel – this indicates the entrance to the Lost Sector. They are not particularly difficult but can seem quite lengthy.

In this case, the quest marker will take you to the general area of the Lost Sector but will not point directly to the entrance. The marker will hover above the raised platform area, and you will need to jump down the curved side of the platform and then look back to where you came from. The curved wall contains a series of arches (see screenshot), and the entrance is under one of these arches.

Once you complete the Lost Sector, you will find a Deepsight marker which you can activate just like in the campaign. Activating it will reveal a hidden platform just behind the last chest from which you can jump into a secret room with an altar. Place the worm on the altar and have a nice chat with it to complete the quest.

Complete three patrols

Patrols are mini-objectives that ask you to do things like killing a certain number of enemies of a certain type in an area. You can easily find it by pulling out your Ghost and looking for small gray diamonds with white symbols in them. I recommend sticking with Enemy Kill Patrols (diamond surrounded by four small triangles pointing to it) or Scrap Patrols (pyramid shape) as they are the easiest to complete.

Find the cryptography rune.

At this point, we are going to start repeating the same cycle we just did. This time we are going to the Royal Bailey, which is easily accessible from where we were just on the Florescent Canal. Once again, follow your quest marker until you reach the correct location, at which point you will have to defeat several waves of the Hive before getting the rune.

Lost Sector of Metamorphosis

This works exactly the same as before, except this time you complete the Metamorphosis Lost Sector in Miasma. Once again, the quest marker will lead you to a common area, but you must find the entrance yourself. If you’re coming from Quagmire, just drive past the area marked with the quest marker to a very large tree, then turn around and look back the way you came to see a cave with the Lost Sector symbol.

After you get past the Lost Sector, you can activate Deepsight, and the large rock in front of you should disappear and reveal a hidden passage where you can play a trick on the worm one more time.

Find the cryptography rune

The last rune is in the Alluring Veil, which is not far from Quagmire, but you’d better teleport back to Finch to find it. This rune is a little more difficult than the previous one. First of all, follow your quest marker to the Curtain Curtain and destroy any Hive in the area as before, but you won’t get the rune right away. Instead, Finch will prompt you to head to the nearest Deepsight marker. Activate your Deepsight, and you will notice a bunch of floating platforms. Three will have unlit torches. Shoot all of these torches to light them, and a rune chest will appear.

Lost Sector Mining

For this step, you are heading to the Lost Sector in Quagmire, the part of the Throneworld where Finch hangs out. Once again, your quest marker will take you to a common area, but you’re looking for a rock with a small stone with the Lost Sector symbol on it. Luckily, it’s pretty hard to miss because it has a Deepsight marker next to it. Activate Deep Vision and drop down to the newly discovered ledge, then go right, facing the edge to find the Lost Sector.

At the end of the Lost Sector, activate Deepsight, and the statue will disappear to reveal a hidden room with the last altar where the worm can attack you again.

Get the hive hull from Finch

After another worm talk, go to Finch and take the item he gives you. This counts as a power weapon, so make sure you have free space in your power weapon slot, or you won’t be able to pick it up.

Parasitic pilgrimage

We’re almost at the finish line, Guardians. This section of the quest has a recommendation for Strength, 1520, which should hopefully be around by now. In the first phase of this mission, you will have to guide the worm through the different areas of the Hive’s energy across the floor. This will be much easier if you bring along a friend who can shoot enemies while you are busy taking care of your worm partner, so try to get a buddy or two in your fireteam.

After that, you will have to protect the worm from waves of disdain and then race the worm through the jump section in a limited amount of time. Finally, you will be rewarded with a Parasite launcher and asked to protect Mara from waves of Scorn. During this final fight, there will be small pools of Hive magic around the room, and standing in them will give you free heavy ammo, so feel free to launch as many worms as you can.

That’s all! When the mission is completed, Parasite will remain with you.
