Destiny 2 PSA: Xur Now Sells Hawkmoon And Dead Man’s Tale

Xur’s inventory this week includes two of Destiny 2′s rarer Exotics, the Hawkmoon and Dead Man’s Tale, two weapons previously available in Seasonal Quests and Hard Missions. While Xur has other exotic gear for sale, such as Sunshot and Lucky Pants, these two items are worth acquiring.

Dead Man’s Tale is a lever-action scout rifle that combines classic style with nice bonuses if you’re good at headshots, and the Hawkmoon is a hand cannon from the original Destiny that has been given a new lease of life in Destiny 2. Quests for both weapons are no longer active due to the removal of the Tangled Shore location in Destiny 2. These exotics are somewhat unique in that you used to be able to complete their missions over and over again to get new weapon versions with different random perks. While there are no missions, you can still get randomized versions of Hawkmoon and Dead Man’s Tale from Xur, who offers a new weapon roll every week.

This week’s Dead Man’s Tale features the Whirlwind Weapon perk, which increases damage against bosses and Guardians using their Supers, while the proposed Hawkmoon comes equipped with Eye of the Storm. This special trait makes weapons more accurate the lower your health is, which works well with tweaking the powerful Paracausal Shot ability of the hand cannon, which gives you a lot of damage after you land a few accurate shots.

The flip side of this situation is that Xur charges extra for these rare weapons. Here is how much you will need to spend on each of them:

Get them while they’re hot.

  • 125,000 blinks
  • 200 Legendary Shards
  • 1 x exotic cipher
  • 1 x supreme shard

That’s a huge price to pay for each weapon, let alone both. Basically, you’ll need the maximum amount of Flicker you can hold, a significant amount of Legendary Shards, and two extremely rare materials. An Exotic Cipher can be earned at level 55 of the Season Pass, or you can spend time in the Crucible and Gambit as part of the Xenology Xur quest offered by the vendor, allowing you to earn one per week. Exotic ciphers are usually required to purchase exotic weapons from a special kiosk in the Tower, which holds several years of previously released exotics.

Ascendant Shards are a bit easier to get. You can earn a few of these in the Season Pass Premium Tier by scrapping Tier 10 Exotic Armor or by resetting the Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit reputation ranks. Nightfalls on Master difficulty can also drop as a reward, while Grandmaster Nightfalls will award one Ascension Shard upon reaching Platinum Completion. Banshee-44 also sells Ascendant Shards for a combination of upgrade prisms, planetary materials, and 50,000 Glimmer.

You’ll need to be quick to get these roles, as Xur will only stick around until Tuesday’s weekly reset at 9:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM ET. If you want to know where Xur is this week, you can also check out our weekly guide to see what Agent of the Nine and the occasional game show host has to offer.
