Destiny 2 Witch Queen Lepidopterist Triumph Guide: Where To Find Every Hidden Moth

Uncovering the secrets of the throne world of Savatuna is not just a way to pass the time in Destiny 2’s latest expansion, The Witch Queen is your shared goal. All the weird puzzles you solve will reveal more of the story or provide resources and unlock new weapons. One of the secret tasks you can complete in the new location is to find some “Unique Transparent Moths”, which are small objects that you can add to the cave next to Finch in the throne world, not unlike the hidden penguins that were part of Outland. Easy extension.

Every week, two new moths appear in the world of thrones, and although the game will tell you where to find them, it will not tell you how to do it. We’ve delved into the depths of Savathun’s realm to find and claim moths, and you can find everything you need to get them yourself in the guide below.

Week 2

Moth #3: Beckoning Curtain

You can reach the Beckoning Curtain by following the path along the edge of the ramparts in the southeast corner of Quagmire.

Spawn in the Mire and head to the exit far to the east to get to the Alluring Curtain. You will need to go around the fortress from the outside, this is the path you will take if you complete the questline “About Queens and Worms” for the Parasite Exotic grenade launcher. The path is fairly straightforward, but there are quite a few platforms that need to be passed to get where you are going. Keep an eye out for the Deepsight nodes, as they will open up platforms that you can use to climb up the large towers that stick out along the way. The first one is next to the white Hive statue and opens the platforms on the tower near the edge of the platform.

Keep going until you meet a Hive Wizard named Ir Olena. Destroy it and the moth will be your reward.

You will follow the path a long way, through multiple platforming instances. Look for a courtyard with a fountain in the middle – that’s your goal. When you arrive, you will find Lucent Hive fighting, including an elite wizard named Ir Olena, Moth Keeper. You only need to kill the Wizard for the moth to appear; it will lie on the ground wherever Ir Olena falls.

Moth #4: Temple of Cunning

Use this portal to get to the Temple of the Wrathful.

The Temple of Cunning is a location you visit during The Witch Queen’s story campaign. To get back to it, travel to the Mire and then head north to the cave-like area where the Scorn spawn, west of the cliff, and the nearby Lost Sector. The path should take you down the hill and into some rocky tunnels, which then lead into some dark rocky tunnels that you can light up by shooting glowing orange slime bags. In the end, you will reach ruined underground structures filled with Scorn and find an orange portal.

Follow the path into the canyon on the left to reach the Temple of Cunning.

Jump there and you will find yourself in front of a tall fortress built into a stone wall. If you’ve played the campaign, do you remember that you’re going across the door ahead to get to the Temple of the Wrathful; instead of going in the fortress, turn left and go around it from the outside?

Kill all the Scorn in this room and the moth will appear on the pillar on the left.

Continue along the path until you enter a structure on the other side of the bridge. Keep advancing; eventually you will come to a stone wall from which light comes out, through which you can pass if you crouch. You may remember this area as the one that precedes the temple proper, which you reach by jumping off a long fall and landing on a bridge. If you get to that drop, you’ve gone too far. Instead, look for a bluish room with a hanging crystal chandelier and a round platform in the center filled with Scorn enemies. Kill them all and a moth will appear on one of the pillars in the center of the room.

Week 1

Moth #1: Quagmire

A green bubble shield on the wall hides a moth; kill all the hives that appear next to it to open it.
A green bubble shield on the wall hides a moth; kill all the hives that appear next to it to open it.

The first Lucent Moth is the easiest to find. From Finch’s location, travel east through the Quagmire section of the Throneworld towards the Lost Sector of the region. When you’re near the Lost Sector, which itself is close to a large cliff on the northern side of the region, turn around and face west. You are looking for a tunnel that runs under a large hill ahead of you. As you enter the tunnel and approach the far end, a group of Lucent Hive will appear in front of you, including the Wizard. Kill all the enemies and look at the tunnel wall on the right or west side. You should see a green bubble disappear when all Lucent Hive enemies are destroyed. Behind the bubble awaits your first “Independent Moth”.

Moth #2: Apothecary

To get the second month, you will need Deepsight Resonance Tier 2, which you can earn from Finch by increasing your reputation rating in Throne World. You will also need to make a long journey to the apothecary, part of the Savathun fortress that you will enter during the Queens and Worms questline. To get there, head to the Blooming Canal area and head to the north end, where you’ll find a gate leading to a part of the fortress called the Royal Bailey.

Continue through the Royal Bailey until you find a large outer area, which includes the main entrance to the Apothecary's Wing, marked by a large staircase. The building you need is behind it, on the left, like here.

The path is straight from here, so keep moving through the Royal Bailey until you reach the outer area. In this section, there will be a large entrance to the fortress at the top of a long flight of stairs in the center, which will be ahead of you and to your right, as you enter the space. Ahead you will see a solid square building with enemies inside, the same is reflected on the far side of the main entrance.

Activate Deepsight and then destroy all five Seals of the Witch Queen.

Go past the stairs to another square building. When you arrive, find the Deepsight Resonance node at the top of the tower and activate it. This will give you about 30 seconds to find and shoot five black round seals that are carrying the green emblem of the Witch Queen Savatuna. They are all scattered around the square building and you can find them by the low hum they make. Here is the location of the five cutie marks if you are standing on the small stairs leading up to it:

Inside the square building on the right wall

  • Outside the building, on the back wall on the right side
  • On the square pylon at the top of the stairs on the left side
  • On the back of the rear left pylon at the top of the stairs
  • Outside the building on the left side of the stairs, next to the doorway leading in.
The moth will spawn on top of this building, at the top of the stairs.

Destroy all five cutie marks before your Deep Vision runs out and the moth will spawn on top of a square building at the top of a small staircase.
