Elden Ring Dung Eater Quest Guide

The Elden Ring

Dung Eater’s quest puts you in the service of one of the most heinous creatures in the Netherlands, the Abominable Dung Eater. It’s a scavenger hunt of sorts, with a secret Elden Lord ending awaiting you at the end, ushering in an era of plague, death, and misery. If this looks like your end, you’ll need some patience. Most of the items you need are locked in late-game zones.

How to start the Dung Eater quest in Elden Ring

The Dung Eater quest has a drawn-out start that begins at the Round Table Keep and continues much later in Lindell, the capital. Dung Eater spawns in the room behind Husk Maidens at some point after getting your first Greater Rune. It’s easy to miss if you don’t explore the Hill after every major event, but when Roderica the Spirit Adjuster says she senses great evil, it’s your sign that the Dung Eater has arrived. Talk to him in his room and he will basically tell you to leave because you’re not spoiled enough.

you need Curse of the Seedbed to get his approval. The first one is located in Lindell, not far from the Eastern Wall of Grace. Exit the room and follow the ramparts until you reach a dim room with a few candles. Go down the stairs and take the elevator at the end of the path. Keep moving forward until you reach a room with a disguised enemy. Quickly head up the stairs, then up the stairs and you’ll find the Garden Curse on a rather tormented corpse.

Your first seedbed curse is on a body tied to a chair in the capital.

Show it to the Dung Eater in the hold. He will order you to release his body into the sewers under the capital and will give you the key to the sewer prison to help you with this.

Location of the dung eater in the sewer prison

The Lindell Sewers is a nightmarish maze, but the path to the Dung Eater’s chamber is fairly straightforward. Go to the balcony of grace in the capital. Turn around and go down the stairs, turn left and jump over the balcony. Jump into the hatch.

Now just keep going straight ahead. When you get to the stairs, a “Subterranean Shunning Grounds” location marker will appear. Instead of turning left to go down, go through the door leading to the huge hall. Drop down, turn left and enter the first large doorway, also on your left. This is an underground roadside site of grace and a good checkpoint if something untoward happens in the future. (You will also come back here later if you want the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending)

Return to the tunnel, turn left and run forward until you see a grate. Climb down, turn left and keep moving forward. There are rats in this first tunnel, but they are slow and won’t follow you. Keep moving forward past the plants and up the stairs. You will find yourself in a large flooded room. Turn right and go to the cell door. Tell the Dung Eater to get out of the cell.

Dung Eater does not invade the Outer Moat

The next step is to visit his room again in Round Table Keep, where he left a message demanding to meet him at the Outer Moat. However, before you do so, be sure to talk to Blackguard Boggart, the thief who stole Rya’s necklace from the Boiled Shrimp Shack in Liurnia. Buy shrimp from him, and later you will find him near the moat, which is located south of the road leading to the Dragon Tree Guardian. Talk to him again, then reload the area. The dung eater should invade as soon as you enter the water.

Some players are reporting that the Dung Eater invasion will not start unless you first talk to the thief. Either way, you’ll find another Seedbed Curse on his corpse after defeating the invading Dung Eater.

Seedbed Curse locations in Elden Ring

Talk to the Dung Eater in the Round Table Keep again and he will ask you to bring more Seedbed Curses to his real body. You need five to get his Mending Rune.

  • Lindell, Fortified Homestead: In the area that should be the alternate Round Table Keep, you’ll find it on a chair in the Dung Eater’s room.
  • Volcano Manor: After entering the portal to fight Rijkaard, turn around and go up the stairs. Use the stone sword key to open the misty door, then head down into the room through the giant metal cages. Damn below.
  • Filigree, Prayer Room: Exit the Prayer Room to the right of the altar and follow the ramparts past the crossbowman. Jump onto the masonry at the end of the balcony, then jump to the square with the gazebo and some candles. Use the stonework at the other end of the platform to reach the balcony above and follow it until you find another body tied to a chair.
  • Filigree, also the Prayer Room: Exit the Prayer Room again to the right, but before you get to the crossbowman, drop down to the right onto the balcony. Do the same again, and then in the doorway with the corpse, jump down to the right again. Head left under the archway, jump off the right side of the stairs and you will find the last Curse on a body tied to a chair.

If you uncursed the thief after the Dung Eater invasion, you can skip one of them. Return your Curses to the Dung Eater’s body and feed them to him. After the fifth, you will receive the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse. That’s all you need from a Dung Eater, so feel free to finish him off and take his armor if you want. Use the Fell Curse rune on Marika’s remains after the final boss fight to unlock the Age of Despair.
