Elden Ring Flask Guide: How to Upgrade Flasks and What They Do

Elden Ring flasks are one of the most important items in the game that you should upgrade at every opportunity and balance to match each challenge. However, if you don’t know what you’re doing, you may not understand how to improve these restorative items for a long time. There’s even a hidden flask that improves your stats and can make a huge difference in some of the game’s toughest battles.

Elden Ring Flask of Crimson Tears and Flask of Azure Tears of explanation

You will receive both Flask of Crimson Tears and Flask of Azure Tears once you get to the Stranded Graveyard tutorial dungeon, and they have a built-in feature that you can use to improve your playstyle. Flask of Crimson Tears restores a certain amount of health when used, and Flask of Azure Tears does the same for your Focus Points (FP).

You start the game with three stacks of Crimson Tears and one stack of Sky Blue Tears. In any Place of Grace, you can swap the number of charges each has – and you should do this before most major encounters. Melee-focused builds, for example, would benefit from more stacks of Crimson Tears and maybe just one stack of Sky Blue Tears. This is especially true before boss fights when you are likely to need to increase your strategies more than usual.

Ways to improve the Elden Ring flask

You can increase the number of charges for your flasks and the amount of health or FP they restore, although both upgrades require special, hard-to-find items.

How to get more flask charges in Elden Ring

You will need Golden Tears to increase the Flask’s charges. They grow on small golden trees scattered across the Lands Between, and you’ll find your first tree north of Stormgate Canyon. Initially, it only takes one Golden Seed to upgrade your flasks, although at higher levels you will need to use several for each upgrade.

You can only use Golden Seeds on the Place of Grace. Rest there, select the Flask option and increase the number of charges. It doesn’t matter which flask you have equipped, as you can still change the number of charges.

How to recover more HP and FP in Elden Ring

You can also restore the amount of HP or FP that your flasks restore with Sacred Tears. They are even rarer and you will usually find them in churches scattered across the lands. Not all churches have it, such as Elle Church, but most churches with a statue of Marika have a Sacred Tear at the base of the statue.

You will also spend Sacred Tears at the Places of Grace, and using them increases the cooldown of both flasks.

What is a Vial of Miraculous Physicist?

Flask of Wondrous Physicist is a separate Flask with its own set of Tears, and you’ll have to travel a bit to find it. It’s worth the time though, as this flask increases your stats and can even prevent you from losing runes upon death.

The Miraculous Physicist’s Flask is located in the Third Church of Marika, north of the waypoint ruins and in the forest with the massive bears. You need Crystal Tears to mix them in this flask to get a specific effect. You’ll find them near Erd’s Small Trees – non-luminous trees marked on your map as large trees – and in some other, more random places, such as the pool at Storm Hill.

However, buffs and cooldowns only get you that far. Be sure to find a good weapon as soon as possible and upgrade it every chance you get.
