The debate about whether Elden Ring is too easy or too hard is likely to rage until the very end of the world,
but whichever side of the fence you’re on: there’s a mod for it. Whether you’re banging your head against the walls of Stormvale or finding the whole thing too light-hearted, two new mods will add difficulty modifiers to Elden Ring to suit your goals. Easy Mode for Elden Ring exactly, but the changes it makes are a bit more granular than just making it easier to kill enemies. It reduces damage taken by 50%, but also gives the player character a 25% damage buff, and also increases rune gain by 10, which means you can go OP incredibly easily if you want.
A mod that steers in the other direction is called Prepare to Die (Hard Mode), which is quite understandable. Its changes are slightly more detailed than in the easy mode mod. It increases the damage, defense and resistance of enemies to NG+ levels, that is, approximately four times, leaving their health, focus and stamina at the same level. But not only that, it also improves enemy AI, meaning you’ll probably want to use Elden Ring’s stealth system more often.
“Enemies will now see and hear you much farther away,” the mod’s description says.
“They will look for you longer and harder when they hear from you. When you backstab without being seen, enemies can hear you right behind them.” This aspect of the mod is still a work in progress; AI changes have been applied to about 10% of the game at the time of writing. It’s not just about making enemies stronger. You won’t be able to travel between each place of grace using the mod, as you can only fast travel between churches and cathedrals. NG+ will scale with these new difficulty settings, and as an added bonus, the FOV has been expanded to give you a bit more situational awareness.
“I was sick of seeing all these ‘simple mods’ siphoned off every other day, so I made this mod instead,
” Writes modder Silentverge. Please note that using Elden Ring mods offline is absolutely essential. Follow the instructions on the mod pages. Elden Ring mods have been slowly coming in since the game’s release three weeks ago. If the above “Easy Mode” mod is still too hard for you, you can always try this one. “peaceful” mod which turns the Interlands into a petting zoo. But be careful: you can still die.
