Elden Ring Hacker Wants Devs To Stop His Big Killing Spree
If you are familiar with Dark souls hacker Malcolm Reynolds, then you can probably guess what’s going on. For the uninitiated, Reynolds is a longtime FromSoft game hacker who has created a lot of problems for Dark Souls 3 as well as Dark Souls updated players a few years ago. In both cases, he modified the game’s code to soften the ban on people by giving them invalid items and status effects. Well, he does the same tricks in ancient reinvading people’s worlds and giving them items they would be better off without before killing them.
Reynolds uploaded the video to YouTube on March 9 showing his latest hack, all his mischief is transferred to the jaunty sounds of The Edsels’ Rama Lama Ding Dong. Reynolds’ mouse cursor first checks a box marked “Hard Review Tutorial”, then another box marked “This bans them”, complete with a small smiley face next to it. After that, the video cuts into a quick sequence of him invading the players’ worlds and completely devastating them with a massive beam of fire from his hand, along with several other devastating spells. Reynolds has shed some light on how he makes other players’ lives in Hell Between Earths, and what he sees as justification for doing so.
Reynolds said Kotaku via Discord reports that the exploit he used,
Hardscaping Tutorial” thing, is actually a debugging item called Pavel used by the developers in testing and still lingering in the game code, but not present in the game itself. He introduces this into the player’s inventory through various modified spells, including spell meteorite which drops several clusters of purple rocks into the environment. As soon as the player dies and returns to their world, the ancient ring registers this Pavel as an invalid element, which the game interprets as evidence that the player is a cheater, which in turn results in a softball where the affected player can only play online with other cheaters.“It’s basically a mask over anti-cheat. While this mask is in play [only] cares about “who it is” and “what it does”, but once you take that mask off the anti-cheat, the game doesn’t care who it is.”
This is how he was able to softball people by bypassing the Easy Anti-Cheat system and hacking ancient rings ruining people’s time – as if the game isn’t doing enough already, given how punishable it is. It’s a headache when Reynolds intrudes. There’s nothing you can do when he shows up. take them. Complaints about Reynolds’s actions ancient ring hasn’t started resurfacing yet, but it might only be a matter of time since his name appears frequently in Dark Souls as well as Elden Ring subreddits.
What are you doing? According to a popular Reddit post from April 2016, the best course of action is to either disconnect or kill yourself to avoid the softball. He said that Bandai Namco and FromSoftware should use this as a lesson in introducing better anti-cheat software that will prevent hackers from using game code.
“I’m a necessary evil,” Reynolds said. “You may ask if the hit is part of the plan, and yes, it is. If I do this will the game die? I don’t think so, but maybe Bandai will fix it. Time to get mobile.”
