Elden Ring: How To Get A Horse

The biggest change to the Soulsborne formula in Elden Ring is the introduction of a massive open world. You can quickly travel between various checkpoints around the map, called “Places of Grace,” but moving from one to another can be tedious if you don’t have a horse. Luckily, you get access to a horse named Torrent at the very beginning of the game. Here’s exactly how to get Torrents, how to mount them, and how to ride them.

How to get a horse in Elden Ring

To purchase a Torrent, you must visit the front Gate Site of Grace in Limegrave. It’s west of the ruins by the gate that leads to the first boss, Margit, Omen Fallen. Interact with the Grace Site, and you will meet Melina, who will give you an item called Ghost Seed Whistle. This item is used to summon Torrent.

We advise you to always keep this item at the ready so that you can quickly use it whenever you want. Go to the Gear menu, then go to your Quick Items and select an empty slot to assign Ghost Seed Whistle.

When you use the Spectral Seed Whistle, your character immediately appears on a horse, meaning you don’t have to press any buttons to get on the Torrent. This is quite handy and can be done in most areas from the outside. You cannot ride the Torrent inside dungeons, castles, or any other interior parts.

You access Torrent at the Gate front Site of Grace.

TO get off the horse, just use Spectral Seed Whistle again. This will make the horse disappear quickly, and you will return on foot. In addition, you can flick the left stick to dismount, which will cause your character to quickly jump down instead of slowly going down. This can be a much more efficient way to dismantle, especially if an enemy is nearby.

Speaking of which, you can attack enemies while on top of the Torrent. To turn right, use R1 or RB, and to turn left, use L1 or LB. You can also use triggers to use a charged attack from any direction. Players can use flasks and other items, as well as magic, while on horseback. Hold circle or B to go faster, but be aware that this will drain stamina, just like attacking.

One great thing about Torrent is the double jump capability, which comes in handy when you’re trying to climb rocks or dodging enemies. Torrent technically has its own health bar, so keep that in mind when fighting enemies. The Torrent may die temporarily, and if it does, you’ll need to use the Infusion of Crimson Tears to bring it back. Alternatively, resting in place of Grace allows them to respawn. You can also use Raisin to heal Torrent while riding it, but this is often unnecessary due to the abundance of checkpoints on the map.
