Gaming laptops usually have certain price points,
And anything that deviates from the norm stands out in one way or another. This MSI laptop available on Argos is so much less than you’d normally expect to pay that we couldn’t help but start breaking down the specs to try and see what huge compromises were made to try and hit that price. However, there is nothing obvious, and judging by the specification, such a machine usually costs around £ 1,000, and not £720 asking.
The good news is that both the CPU and GPU are quality items and not at all what you would expect to see at this price point. The GPU is obviously really important in a gaming machine, and here you are looking at an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 with 6GB GDDR6. It’s an 85W GPU, so it’s not the fastest version of the 3060, but it’s not bad either way.
In terms of processor, you’re looking at the Intel Core i7 11800H
Which is an octa-core, 16-thread processor with a base clock of 2.3GHz and boosts up to 4.6GHz. Yes, this is technically the latest generation processor since Alder Lake mobile chips are just starting to appear, but it’s still a quality processor and an absolute steal at this price point. What’s most surprising about this build isn’t the impressive CPU and GPU, but the fact that MSI has backed them up with a comprehensive common specification. For example, you get 16GB of DDR4 RAM as well as 512GB of NVMe storage. Even the screen is head and shoulders above the norm with a 144Hz refresh rate.
If you’re looking for this laptop elsewhere,
You’re looking for closer to £1,000, but right now you can save £280 on Argos. For this, you get a powerful slot machine that will run the latest games at the highest settings. And you really can’t ask for too much in these silicon-deficient days. This is an absolute bargain basically. One that’s enticing, even if you’re not currently looking for a gaming laptop. I don’t see this being beaten anytime soon.
