Some elements of Gran Turismo 7 require an internet connection, so even if someone gets a copy early, they may experience limitations in terms of playability. This was announced by the head of Polyphony Digital Kazunori Yamauchi. Eurogamer that the game’s online requirement is being implemented “to prevent cheating in general by people trying to change save data…”

Gran Turismo 7 was originally scheduled to be released in 2021, but COVID-19 affected “critical aspects” of the game’s development, so Sony pushed the game back to 2022.

“The GT7 has been impacted by COVID-related production issues and will therefore be rescheduled from 2021 to 2022,” a spokesperson said. “With the ongoing pandemic, this is a dynamic and changing situation, and some critical aspects of game production have slowed down over the past few months.”

Gran Turismo 7 is aiming for 4K/60FPS on PS5. This is one of the many big games launching in March. One of the other high-profile releases is GTA V for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, which releases on March 15th.
