It’s Official, Nintendo Has Withdrawn Super Smash Bros. From EVO 2022
As you may recall, last March, Sony Interactive Entertainment and the RTS esports business jointly acquired the Evo fighting game tournament. Nintendo stated at the time that it would continue to “evaluate” the Evo as it planned going forward. Brothers Super Smash tournament activity. It looks like the decision has now been made. According to Team Evo’s announcement, Nintendo has decided to withdraw Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from the event. This is admittedly a major blow to the event as the series has been featured at the event since 2007.
Here is the full statement from Evo:
“Since 2007, we have seen historical Super Smash Bros. moments created at Evo events. We are saddened that Nintendo has decided not to continue that legacy with us this year. We hope to celebrate Super Smash Bros. once again in the future. The community next to them.”
As noted above, the Evo 2022 announcement will take place on March 8th.
Nintendo previously mentioned that it “enjoyed interacting with fans at past Evo tournaments” and wished the show’s organizers all the best for their new venture. More recently, he has hosted his own tournaments.
