In February, players who had previously received the adult-only horror game Agony Unrated from Madmind Studios as a free bonus for purchasing the original censored version simply called Agony were surprised to find that it had disappeared from their Steam libraries.
As Mummind explained, the decision to remove the two games was made by Steam, presumably “because some players who intentionally bought the game in the censored version also got access to the uncensored version, which they didn’t want.”
While the developer was trying to sort out the situation, Agony Unrated was put up for sale at the lowest possible discount in each region (which can range from 65% to 95%) as an apology. The latest update from Madmind was posted on the games site. Steam Forumssuggests that a more permanent solution has been found: “In a couple of days, we plan to release a DLC version of UNRATED that will allow Agony owners to download this adult-only extension. Without paying.”
The comments below explain that saves and achievements from the standalone version of Agony Unrated should be “fully compatible” and carried over to the DLC version. Madmind previously created a similar DLC to add adult-only content to another game of theirs. Succubus (a game where you can eat fruit for hit points) and that seems like a safer approach.
“As we’re still waiting for full confirmation from Steam,” it concluded, “I can’t share all the details, but we’ll post the full announcement as soon as everything’s ready.”
