Ms. Marvel trailer: Teen crushes, superheroics hit Disney Plus in June

Marvel’s next Disney Plus series, moon knight, arrives later this month, but the MCU isn’t slowing down. On Tuesday, Marvel released the trailer for its next series. Ms. Marveland news about the main summer release date.

Created by Bisha K. Ali, formerly of Loki and Netflix sex education series stars Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager turned stretchy superhero named Ms. Marvel.

Kamala broke onto the pages of Marvel comics in 2013 thanks to Marvel writer J. Willow Wilson and artist Adrian Alfona (with an instantly iconic costume designed by Jamie McKelvey). As Wilson told Polygon when Disney and Marvel first announced the series, Kamala is a “comic book fan within comics,” and it shows in the trailer. The first real look at the series is reminiscent of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Light” as it introduces many sides to Kamala as she deals with high school, crushes, her heritage, and eventually her budding abilities.

“I think there are characters that are very well suited to the big screen; they are very naturally cinematic. But with Ms. Marvel, we weren’t really interested in making something that had very obvious movie potential,” Wilson told us in 2019. “I was really leaning — and I know Adrian. [Alphona] and Takeshi [Miyazawa] and all the artists too – really leaned towards this character’s comics. She has a very comic book ability. God bless them as they try to make it happen.”

Ms. Marvel Coming to Disney Plus on June 8th. And it won’t be the last time we see Kamala appear next February. Miracles.
