Nintendo launched a new mission system for Nintendo Switch Online users
Those with an active Nintendo Switch Online account have received several new options to further customize their player profiles. Live, players will be able to complete weekly missions from Nintendo to earn a currency called Platinum Points, which can be redeemed for digital wallpapers, physical items from the My Nintendo Store, and new icon elements from games like Super Mario Odyssey as well as Animal Crossing: New Horizons. All of this is part of the new Missions, and Rewards feature built into Nintendo Switch Online.
These various icon elements include symbols, frames, or backgrounds that can be combined to create a unique player icon. Every month will have a new theme, and new icon elements will be released every week. The first set of icon elements will be available for a limited time until April 3rd. New Horizons include Dom, a sheep character with a tie, Molly the duck, Chevre the goat, and more. Additional Mario icons include Explorer Toad and Cappie, among others.
The “missions” are relatively simple. This week, the app assigns players tasks such as playing with online features or playing the NES software included with a Nintendo Switch Online account. Just one online game per week will earn you 30 Platinum Points. For reference, one Animal Crossing avatar is worth 10 Platinum Points.
To get the new badges, you need an active Nintendo Switch Online account, and you’ll need to download the app from your Nintendo Switch. Once you’ve done that, all you have to do is select “Missions and Rewards” from the left menu. For a complete list of what’s available right now, you can check out Nintendo’s post about this feature.
