Nintendo Sneakily Filed A New Controller Patent Last Year
Nintendo is definitely one of the most secretive companies in the video game industry, but it’s also one of the biggest innovators when it comes to technology. So leave it as a small opening to get people talking.
One Twitter user discovered a patent made by Nintendo last July, which was then published in early January. How is it almost two months ago!?
Patent available here but there’s not much to glean from the page, aside from a few juicy design concepts that, in our opinion, look a bit like the top half of the N64 controller.
So what does this suggest?
Probably not much, so don’t get your hopes up. But it’s always very interesting to see what ideas Nintendo wants to defend – for example, these hinged Joy-Cons in 2019, which we yet have not seen. We also already have an N64 controller for the switch, so what else can offer something like that?
