Nintendo Switch Is Back On Top According To February’s NPD Sales Figures

A little earlier we reported UK hardware sales for February 2022 and it looks like it’s a similar story.

The Switch was once again the top-selling console for devices sold in the US this February, which the big N will be happy about as they slipped a few spots in January.

Perhaps that post-holiday lull for Nintendo passed quickly, or word of mouth about how good Pokémon Legends: Arceus was at the end of the month meant that people couldn’t resist missing out on Pocket Monster’s new adventures.

Interestingly, the Xbox Series X|S remained in a solid second place, while the PlayStation 5 dropped from first to third, although it is still the top-selling console this year in terms of dollar sales.

However, similar to the UK, in the US, equipment sales fell 27% in February compared to the same period in 2021.

Nintendo probably had to rely on its core franchise to keep console sales strong, but other consoles this month have seen huge success in the form of ancient ring, which, unsurprisingly, towers proudly over the stack. Exclusive to Sony Forbidden Horizon West ranks second, with Legends: Arceus nestled snugly below it and above several other new releases.

There are plenty of older, solid Nintendo releases on this list, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild returning to the top 20. Another big game from Nintendo is coming out in March – Kirby and the Forgotten Land – so it’ll be interesting to see how our bubblegum-colored chubby buddy impacts sales in its first fully 3D main game.
