Think back to 2003 (we know – Heyhuh?), and you may remember the relatively short commercial for the critically acclaimed RPG. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga for the Game Boy Advance.

The commercial showed footage of a pair of rowdy kids dressed as our beloved brothers doing their best to wreak havoc and mayhem on each other. [Er, I think you’ll find this is archival footage of the young Mario bros. Themselves. Some random kids dressed up as Mario and Luigi!? Tsk. – Ed]

Well, it looks like less than half of the footage was used for the final commercial, with 27 seconds left on the cutting room floor. The good news, though, is that everything is now viewable online. And while that doesn’t give an accurate picture of the game itself, it’s a fun little piece of history nonetheless.

Here is the footage courtesy of Twitter users @Foulowe59 and @MarioBrothBlog:

For Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga in the United States, 48 seconds of Mario and Luigi’s live performances were prepared. But used only 21 seconds were in the finished version. Below is the entire footage, including 27 seconds of deleted scenes. pic.twitter.com/vCoaGGrpAu— Dinner Mario Broth (@MarioBrothBlog) February 25, 2022

Here is the original ad from the time:

The game received a 3DS version – Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions – towards the end of that system’s life. Which sadly got a bit lost when everyone and their dogs switched to Switch. If you still have a 3DS, we definitely recommend getting the game there while you still can!
