Reggie Fils-Aime Questions Facebook’s Vision For The Metaverse

Is it something Facebook’s parent company Meta has been chasing lately? But video game veteran Reggie Fils-Aim is skeptical about the company’s direction? Speaking at the South by Southwest event in Texas. The former president of Nintendo of America explained. Why does he believe in smaller companies and more innovative brands like Epic? Games will be responsible for shaping the Metaverse with compelling ideas.
“Facebook itself is not an innovative company,”
Fils-Aim said via Bloomberg. “They either bought cool stuff like Oculus and Instagram or they were quick to follow people’s ideas. I don’t think their current definition will be successful.” Fils-Aimé also mentioned that larger companies could try to acquire these more innovative firms – still a hot topic in 2022 – in a similar fashion to Microsoft’s proposed purchase of Activision Blizzard. Talking about the Metaverse aside, Fils-Ame has been busy since leaving Nintendo in 2019.

Fils-Aimé left the company amid the 2021 short squeeze drama turmoil and is currently chairman of UTA Acquisition Corp. and also serves on the board of directors.
