Smash Bros. Dropped From Evo 2022

Evo tournament organizers have announced that Super Smash Bros will not be participating in the upcoming Evo 2022 tournament in March as Nintendo has apparently shut it down. Evo said in a statement: “Since 2007, we’ve seen historical Super Smash Bros moments created at Evo events. We are saddened that Nintendo has chosen not to continue this legacy with us this year.”

Regardless, Evo 2022 is still being held live this year in Las Vegas. It’s scheduled for March 8, starting at 5:00 PM PT. The full lineup of games has yet to be confirmed.

In March 2021, Sony announced the purchase of Evo and Nintendo confirmed plans to partner with Panda Global to host their own Smash tournaments. Whether any of these moves played a role in the decision to drop Smash from Evo remains to be seen.
