Splatterpunk horror FPS Golden Light leaves Early Access

How to describe the Golden Light? It’s a roguelike first-person shooter that James Davenport memorably described as “hunting for props in an endless sprawling office building meat maze from hell.” More recently, in glorifying ugly games, Nat Clayton called them “disturbingly meaty.”

Golden Light is a game that sees you descend through the levels of a meaty construct called the Gut, which is equal parts Silent Hill office space and cannibal nightmare. Among the features of this game are listed as follows: “In this game, you can eat or throw things: bat head, spoiled fruit, fish head, thick lips, butcher’s apple, and many others!”

Whatever this confusing horror shooter really is, you can now experience it in its most terrifying full-featured form, as Golden Light released version 1.0 with an embarrassingly wet sign. It is available on Steam for 30% off at launch and additionally discounted in two packs. That Go to Hell Package collects it and retro FPS Ultrakill while Taste of Madness Bundle combines Golden Light and Cruelty Squad, one of the most offensive games in recent memory.

“This is not a game for those who expect something ordinary or easy,” James said of Golden Light back in 2020, “but for me (and I’m still pretty early on) I love kicking in sickening, steady games. like golden light. And while maintaining tension, mystery, and morbid unease is paramount here, underneath this heavy blanket of thematics, there is still a game that I am slowly beginning to understand, even if it resists me at every opportunity.
