System Shock and Ultima Developer Warren Spector Is Making a New Game

Warren Spector, the developer, best known for Deus Ex, System Shock, and Ultima, has announced a new project with his studio OtherSide Entertainment. Spector is working on a compelling new narrative experience where the player’s choices will directly impact the story.IN¬†Press release¬†Spector said: “It’s a pleasure to work with a talented team on a new game and new intellectual property. Fans of my work already know what to expect: an immersive world and engaging storytelling that players will directly influence with their choices and playstyle.

OtherSide is hiring a number of new employees to work on the game and promises to provide more information on the game soon.

System Shock 3 is also currently in development on OtherSide, but production seems to have been hectic so far. It was announced over six years ago, and development was reportedly taken over by Nightdive Studios after OtherSide was “critically behind.”

OtherSide’s website still says it is working on System Shock 3, but it was announced in May 2020 that the game’s production had also shifted to Tencent.

Underworld Ascendant is the studio’s latest game, although IGN called it “terrible” in our 3/10 review. We said he “just broke down. What little role-playing fun that could have been vanishing due to technical glitches, a save system that feels like cruel and unusual punishment, and a vapid story set in similarly repetitive environments.”
