Yesterday, independent digital store Itch.io launched Set for Ukraine. A collection of nearly 1,000 games for a minimum purchase price of just $10, with all funds raised going to charities supporting the people of Ukraine. Based on initial coverage levels. We predicted that the package would likely exceed its $1 million target raised before it expires in 10 days. And, well, we were right. Very right.
Package
The original purpose of the package was $100,000, according to Brandon Sheffield of Necrosoft Games. Which hosts the Bundle for Ukraine, but was boosted to $1 million after breaking that mark in just an hour. According to Sheffield on Twitter, the $1 million goal took 14 hours to reach and has now been raised to $2 million. It looks like this will happen too: it’s been less than 24 hours since the launch of the package, and the total funds raised are now over $1.62 million.
A few other fun numbers, all obviously taken at the time of writing:
- Total Purchases: 110 579
- Average purchase Price: $14.63
- Maximum purchase price: $1,694.20 (Outstanding work, whoever you are.)
It’s been said before, but it’s worth mentioning again. This bundle is not only notable for the sheer number of games it contains. But also for the fact that it has some really good standalone games at a ridiculously good price. Chances are high that most of us will never touch the vast majority of the games in this pack. But with things like Skatebird, Backbone, Cloud Gardens, Superhot, A Short Hike, Baba is You, Night Call, Celeste, Minit, Jotun. A Mortician’s Tale, Quadrilateral Cowboy, Rusty Lake Hotel, Super Win the Game, Summer in Mara, Evangeline and Back to Bed, you’re sure to find at least a few things you’ll want to play.
Funds
Funds raised by Bundle for Ukraine on Itch.io will be divided equally between two charities. International Medical Corpswhich provides medical care in the region with minimal fundraising costs – 80% of donations go directly to medical care. And Children’s voices, a Ukrainian organization that helps children cope with the horrors of war. The set will be available for purchase until March 17th.
