The Office Revival Could Be Like The Mandalorian, Greg Daniels Says

The Office co-creator Greg Daniels has commented on reports of a reboot of the popular American workplace comedy, saying that NBC is excited about it and that it could be similar to the Star Wars series The Mandalorian in some ways.

Conversation with the collider, Daniels said NBC would “certainly be very happy to do so.” However, Daniels’ busy schedule is holding him back now. He is currently working on Space Force for Netflix and Upload for Amazon. Not only that, Daniels said The Office was such a “wonderful and rare experience” that he would only want to return to it if the idea was special and worthwhile enough.

“Obviously, you don’t want to just go back and maybe disappoint people when right now they couldn’t be happier,” Daniels said.

As for what the new version of The Office might look like, Daniels said he doesn’t see the same characters in it again. Instead, the new The Office could be similar to The Mandalorian in that it expands the series in a new direction.

“I can’t tell if the fans will want more, and when I say more, I don’t think it will be the same characters. know what I mean how way [The] The Mandalorian is a sequel to Star Wars, Daniels said. “But I don’t know if people will want it or not; Hard to say.”

Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott in The Office, said in an interview that he thinks the return of The Office is a bad idea. According to him, not only should the series not return, but it might not work if it has a similar tone and characters.

“The climate is different. I mean, the whole idea of this character, Michael Scott, was based a lot on inappropriate behavior,” he said.

The Office, inspired by the Ricky Gervais show of the same name, ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013. It was Netflix’s most-watched show until it was taken down and released on NBC’s own Peacock service.
