We’re always on the lookout for great deals here – the kind of things that will really save our dear readers some money on the PC gaming hardware they really need. This means we haven’t been able to write about any graphics card deals for what seems like forever. At least not for two years on a half-decent deal.
But today, the graphics card crisis seems to be easing. Not so fast, but gradually the prices of video cards are returning to their recommended retail prices. All in all, this is promising news for PC gamers because while we’re not out of the woods yet, it means that GPUs like this Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Gaming OC are in stock at a price of 1530 USD.
This is a card that once sold on Amazon US for $2,999. I’m not sure if anyone paid that much for it or even thought about it, but the market was so tight for powerful GPUs that there’s a chance someone did. These were truly dark times for computer games.
We know that even very recently, people were paying over $1,530 for this card. The same model is going $1840 on Amazon and is listed on the #1 bestseller list. Just go to B&H; it’s 17% cheaper.
Is it good for Nvidia GA102-225 GPU and 12GB GDDR6X memory? I think so. That’s relatively high compared to what we might see for this card in 2021, but it’s still a little more than we’d actually be willing to pay, judging by its suggested $1,200 MSRP. However, this is for the Founders Edition, and here you get a more compact three-fan cooler.
Although, if you look at the RTX 3080 Ti’s MSRP as well as a product of the chip crisis, and instead compare the RTX 3080’s MSRP of $699, which came out shortly before things got bad for PC hardware, it’s really not that much.
But the same can be said for just about any RTX 3080 Ti, and Nvidia has practically wiped that old MSRP off the face of the planet with the new 12GB RTX 3080, which costs over $1,000 as standard.
So, a mixed bag, but I thought it worth highlighting as it’s in stock and ready to go today. If you want to check out what kind of performance you can expect from this card, take a look at my Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition review. In short, it’s an absolute beast. It would be better for that kind of money – for that kind of money you could buy a whole PC.
There’s one more thing I wanted to mention, you may find that GPU prices continue to drop throughout this year, and by the time new GPUs arrive towards the end of 2022, you may find yourself still overpaying. Even at this half-decent price. RTX 3080 Ti price. It’s a risk you’ll have to weigh yourself, and I would say it comes down to whether you’re happy withholding on a little longer or if you’re fed up and ready to upgrade immediately.
However, a member of the PC Gamer team just decided to end it and bought this particular GPU in the UK. So you will be in good company if you decide to go for it and take that risk. You see, we understand this, and we won’t be the ones to say, “I told you so,” when prices eventually normalize.
