Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands First Borderlands With Full Cross-Play
Upcoming co-op shooter Tiny Tina’s Wonderland There will be crossplay across all platforms,
Gearbox announced yesterday. This might seem like a forgotten conclusion in 2022, but this is the first time Borderlands PlayStation and Xbox users will be able to play together. “Tiny Tina’s Wonderland will release on March 25 with full cross-platform play for all platforms at launch, including PlayStation,” said Gearbox Entertainment President Randy Pitchford. tweeted last night. “Incredible work by the Gearbox Software engineers and thanks to our partners at 2k Games and 1st party, including Sony, for working on this together.”
Like the past Borderlands games, spotlight Tiny Tina’s Wonderland is a co-op campaign in which groups of up to four players defeat bosses in pursuit of more powerful equipment. Missions and gameplay this time around D&D-Inspired, which makes multiplayer even more of a part of the experience, so it’s important that the game allows players from different platforms to team up. And it’s a reminder that Sony historically was the only procrastination with this issue.
However, this was not the case when Borderlands 3 came out in 2019.
Two years after Epic Games accidentally made Fortnite temporary crossplay between PS4 and Xbox One and a year after Sony’s official release in sluggish support concept, the Gearbox shooter runs without it. When they finally added crossplay last year, PS4 and PS5 were not included, defeating most of the points (you can still woo PC and Xbox). It’s unclear exactly what has changed in the months since, but Pitchford wrote in a follow-up tweet that he now considers himself completely Borderlands 3 crossplay be “inevitable”, and more information will come later.
In the past, Sony has actually offered companies to charge extra for cross-platform play.
This is what the PlayStation maker originally suggested to Epic Games when they wanted to do it. Fortnite cross-play, according to court documents disclosed last year in Epic v. Apple. “Under certain circumstances, Epic will have to pay additional revenue to Sony,” Sweeney said of the deal during last year’s legal battle. “If someone was mainly playing on the PlayStation but paying on the iPhone, that could lead to compensation.”
Over the years, crossplay has become the norm for most new online multiplayer games. While there are still notable adversaries – FIFA and Madden remain platform-bound – genre leaders such as Call of Duty as well as Battleground are now firmly platform-independent. Even some old games keep getting updated. Last week, Ubisoft announced a 2017 medieval action movie. For honor would finally crossplay when the Lost Horizons update comes out this week.
