Watch the 5 fastest Breath of the Wild speedruns ever
To the average viewer, the antics of speedrunners are awe-inspiring. For those unfamiliar with the concept, speedrunners try to get through games as quickly as possible, using skill, crashes, and community support to test the limits of the games they play.
Player5
Launch date: February 21, 2022
Lead time: 24:27.267
Speedrunner Player5 set the world record for fastest % speedrun Breath of the Wild just last month. One would expect the world’s fastest speedrun for such a popular game to be a bit of a stretch, but what I love about it is how laid-back it all feels. In the beginning, the streamer talks about school and how annoying it is that they have homework during the holidays. Then, just over halfway through, the run takes a dramatic turn when they save a significant amount of time on the castle segment of the run. In their own words, Player 5 said that they could save a little more time in some areas, like the final boss Blight, but in the end, part of the castle was so fast that it saved enough time to make it the fastest. in the world. The last run time is 24:27.267, making it the fastest run at the time of publication.
Clorox
Launch date: February 8, 2022
Lead time: 25:18.200
The second-fastest run in the world is currently held by a streamer known as Koroks, named after the adorable tree-like creatures that inhabit some of the Zelda games. The hallmark of this run was an exceptional series of boss fights at the end. In it, they make the most of their giant claymores, managing to land many hits on Ganon’s series of forms called Pestilences. In the end, the race ended with a time of 25:18.200, just under a minute away from the best result.
majestic
Launch date: January 27, 2022
Lead time: 25:21.700
Though Breath of the Wild it’s an open-world game, players haven’t found a way to skip its pretty hefty tutorial section where players need to visit four shrines to unlock all of Link’s Sheikah Slate’s features. Majestic’s third-fastest race in the world runs this section perfectly. To do this, Majestic, like many other streamers who take the same route, uses a technique that allows Link to fly through the air using a glitch when he is holding a bomb. Majestic covered the entire Great Plateau region in 13:17, placing it third in the world in speed.
Sir Tapir
Launch date: February 25, 2022
Lead time: 25:22.667
What I love about speedrunning is how quiet many runs are. While many streamers emphasize loud and bold reactions to gameplay, many speedrunners are silent and extremely focused. The fourth-fastest run in the world, by Sir Tapir, contains a quiet commentary on what ends with an impressive run. Upon entering Hyrule Castle, they didn’t think it would be a good run; then turned it around and became the fourth fastest in the world. The joy of watching this run came from hearing Sir Tapir going back and forth about whether something good would come of it and ended up enduring it to have a good time.
Player5
Launch date: February 28, 2022
Lead time: 25:30
Player5 is one of the best Breath of the Wild speedrunners, so it seems fitting that they complete this list on both sides. At the time of publication, Player5 holds the world record and is ranked fifth in the world for speedrunning by any percentage. While not a world record, this run is good because it combines an impressive attempt with helpful commentary in which Player5 tells listeners more about which version of the game is best to speed up. While this launch wasn’t fully optimized, they ended up with an impressively short 25 minutes and 30 seconds.
