You can now play as a same-gender couple in the sci-fi RPG Haven
Fans Harborsci-fi RPG dystopia of 2021 and one of Polygon’s favorite games of the past year, thanks to a new free update, the game can now be played as a same-sex couple.
“Haven is a game about the freedom to love anyone, which is why we’re especially excited to bring this free couple update to all platforms,” The Game Bakers CEO Emeric Toa. Wrote in a post-announcement of a new addition to the game. Now you can play the game with Yu and Kei whichever you like best: a woman and a man, two women or two men.” Haven is a third-person survival role-playing game in which players take on the roles of Yu and Kei, two lovers and fugitives who escape from a repressive, authoritarian society and flee to a mysterious, uninhabited planet known as “The Fountainhead” in search of freedom.
In a posted post on the developer’s blog, Mylène Lourdel of The Game Bakers emphasized that the update will not change the storyline for Harbor but will offer more options for the composition of the pair. “This update is very special for us,” they wrote. “The original concept Harbor 8 couples were presented with a variety of relationships. It became clear during production that we wouldn’t be able to achieve our original vision for a full set of characters, so we focused on two characters that you know well. But right after the launch of the game, we got back to work on this update.”
The new versions of Yu and Kay are voiced by Ryan Hiley and Lexi Ann Kendrick, who re-recorded all 80,000 lines of dialogue in the game. In addition, the written dialogue has been changed in all eight HarborThe available languages with any explicit and implicit references to gender have been changed throughout to reflect the player’s chosen characters.
HarborX, The Couples Update, is available for free on PC (Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One & Series, and Nintendo Switch.
