Next-gen versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 15, and you’ll be able to preload the game now when pre-ordering digitally through the PlayStation 5 console store or the Microsoft Store.

PS5 users will be able to get GTA 5 + GTA Online for $9.99 / £8.75 / AU$14.99 within the first three months of launch. But for those on Xbox, it will cost $19.99 / £17.49 / AU$29.97. Free updates are not available and the game will return to $39.99 starting June 15th. So, here’s everything you need to know about pre-orders and how to download the next generation version of GTA 5 right now.

How to Update and Preload GTA 5 on Next Generation Consoles

Technically, there is no upgrade path for GTA 5 on next generation consoles like PS5 or Xbox Series X. If you’re on PS5, it currently costs $10, while those on Xbox will pay $20.

If you’d like to play the game with the latest updates, you can pre-order the updated version digitally now from the Microsoft Store or PlayStation Store. Once you’ve pre-ordered, you can pre-download the game to your console, so you’re ready for another launch day of GTA 5. Once you’ve purchased the game, your console should prompt you to start downloading it immediately. But you can’t play the update yet, as it will be officially available on March 15, 2022.

Best Deal: You have until June 15th to get GTA 5 for $10

PS5 players get the best deal when it comes to next-gen GTA 5 updates, with the game only priced at $10. This is a 75% discount for three months from the launch date. You can pre-order now, which will give you immediate access to preload the game. GTA Online will also be free to download and play on PS5 from March 15 if you don’t want to buy the full game again.

If you play on Xbox, unfortunately I have some bad news for you. Not only does the full GTA 5 package cost $20 instead, if you just want to play GTA Online it will cost $9.99 / £8.99 / AU$15.47. If you’re not happy with the pricing model, consider it a new game on sale immediately (this is just an example, I know it’s not). GTA 5 is $39.99 but is on sale (75% off PS5 and 50% off Xbox) until June 15th. To find out more, check out our full next-gen GTA 5 pricing breakdown here.
